PARIS, April 19 — The Danish brand AIAIAI, known for its TMA-1 series headphones, is back with TMA-2 – a highly customisable product line that allows you to buy each part separately to create your ideal set of headphones.
Introduced this week, the TMA-2 Modular System comes with the tagline “one system – 360 headphones.” Those configuration possibilities include pre-set models that are based on the TMA-1 series as well as options that can be built from scratch using a “Configurator.”
Potential buyers can play with options to build a set tailored to specific use situations – DJing, casual listening, on the go – or to musical taste, or any number of other preferences.
Among the parts available are three headbands, five ear-pads, six cables and four speaker units.
The headphones’ adaptable nature also means they’re open to future upgrades, the company points out.
TMA-2 headphones are available now and range in price from about 145 euros to 250 euros, depending on the parts you choose.
The trend of customisation has been a hot one in recent years, covering everything from technology to cars to interior design. But it’s been relatively absent in the personal audio market, where it could get a big following thanks to a discerning clientele.
Those looking for a headphone experience that adapts to them might be interested in the AKG N90Q by Harman, which were designed by Grammy-winning musician Quincy Jones and are billed as the world’s first set of personalised sound headphones.
Using TruNote technology and with microphones in each ear, they’re said to automatically reproduce sound adjusted to the user’s anatomy.
