SAN FRANCISCO, July 11 — While the World Cup is still at the forefront of every football fan’s mind, Nike is making headlines with the launch of a new smartphone app dedicated to the world’s favourite sport.
Available for Android and iOS devices, Nike’s new app is based around a self-contained social networking platform designed to unite football enthusiasts around the globe, starting at the local level. One useful feature allows amateur players to organise pick-up games at the time and place of their choice. The platform uses geotagging to identify other players in the area so that they can be invited to join in.
The app also provides access to the Nike Academy, the company’s UK-based professional training program for promising young football talents. The app will be the only way for budding athletes to sign up for events organised by the programme.
Of course, the app will also serve as a showcase for products from the brand with the Swoosh logo. Users will be able to browse through the latest football gear and attire before it arrives in stores. — AFP-Relaxnews
