LAS VEGAS, Jan 7 — On board with the wearables trend at this week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Korea's LG has announced its own activity tracker, the Life Band Touch, featuring a touchscreen interface and heart rate tracking via sensorized earbuds.

The Life Band Touch takes a nod from the Nike+ FuelBand with its matte black wristband and minimal colouring. But the heart rate earbuds could give it an edge — they work by checking a user's pulse through blood flow in the ear while also providing the music for your workout.

The device relies on Bluetooth LE to sync with a companion Android or iOS app. Plus like many of its competitors on the market, the Life Band Touch measures steps taken, distance travelled, pace, and calories burned, all viewable on the wristband's touchscreen.

No word yet on pricing but LG plans to launch the band and heart rate earphones this spring in the US, followed by rollouts to other markets. This isn't LG's first foray into fitness tracking. At last year's CES, the company unveiled its Smart Activity Tracker, but the device never made it past the prototype stage.— AFP-Relaxnews
