MONTGOMERY, Alabama, Nov 21 — Twice Used, a project seeking funding on Kickstarter, aims to give new life to broken or discarded iPhones. It aims to create everyday objects such as jewellery, photo frames, tables, wall clocks etc from the discards.
The idea is to make the materials from old smartphones useful again, and to limit the amount of electronic waste that goes into landfills.
The Twice Used page on Kickstarter shows a number of prototypes made with iPhone components. They include earrings and bracelets made of iPhone home buttons, a table top made with hundreds of broken iPhone screens, and a unique wall clock made from 12 panes of iPhone glass.
Twice Used already has around 20,000 panes of iPhone glass in stock, but it needs to secure partnerships with repair shops to ensure a steady supply.
The goal of the Kickstarter campaign, launched by Twice Used founder Chris Koerner, is to raise US$10,000 (RM31,790) in order to develop its supply chain and distribution.
