TOKYO, Sept 9 — Videogame stalwart Nintendo officially confirmed the release date of the Switch 2 exclusive remake of the popular and acclaimed Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
In a Nintendo Direct The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary presentation streamed online last night, the company confirmed the game would only be available on the Switch 2 console and would be available starting November 5 this year.
While fans have been begging for a port of the game to newer systems, Nintendo has decided on a full-on remake with redesigned character models as well as updated controls.
For instance, as demonstrated in the livestream, players now press the X button to jump instead of automatically jumping when nearing a gap.
Originally released on the Nintendo 64 game system, Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been one of the most enduring and well-loved titles in the Zelda franchise.
For Malaysian gamers, the game is already on pre-order on the Malaysia Nintendo e-shop for RM280.
Besides the remake, Nintendo also confirmed a special commemorative Switch 2 Zelda edition releasing on October 29 with a matching Switch 2 Pro Controller as well as a carrying case.
A surprise announcement was that Nintendo will also release an official electric ocarina, matching the one Link plays throughout Ocarina of Time.
Also coming is a traditional acoustic model as well as another electric version but created by games accessory maker Hori.
Nintendo also announced details of the upcoming Zelda movie in a succinct statement: “The Live-Action Film of The Legend of Zelda, Releasing on April 30, 2027, Will Be Titled The Legend of Zelda.”
Zelda’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto also said the movie would have no subtitles and the story would be original, not based on any of the existing Zelda games.
“This is an original film based on the many stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, built up through the games for 40 years,” he explained.
He also said,”Once you see the film, you’ll understand why there isn’t a subtitle.”
The film will be released exclusively in theatres on launch but a new trailer and further details on the story have yet to be revealed.
