KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — National modern pentathlon athletes Aw Jian Ting and Lim Pei Yao finished 34th and 27th, respectively, in the fencing seeding round at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games today.
In the action held at Anjo Sports Park, Jian Ting placed 34th out of 36 competitors after recording seven wins and 28 defeats over 35 bouts.
Pei Yao, meanwhile, recorded nine victories and 23 defeats from 32 bouts to place 27th out of 33 athletes in the women’s event.
Pei Yao is scheduled to continue her quest for a place in the final tomorrow across four semi-final disciplines, namely fencing direct elimination, obstacle, swimming and laser-run.
Meanwhile, Jian Ting will be in action on Friday to complete the remaining four disciplines in the men’s semi-final following the same competition schedule format.
Modern pentathlon is the ultimate multi-discipline sport where a single athlete takes on five completely different events in one day, namely fencing, obstacle, swimming and the combined laser-run (shooting and running). — Bernama
