KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Chelsea will play in Malaysia for the first time in 13 years when the English Premier League club face Johor Darul Ta’zim in a pre-season friendly on August 11.
In a Facebook post, JDT said the match will be held at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor as part of Chelsea’s preparations for the 2026-2027 Premier League season under newly-appointed manager Xabi Alonso.
The match between “The Blues” and the “Southern Tigers” will kick off at 8pm.
Tickets are priced from RM154 to RM1,254, with a supporters’ club pre-sale starting at 10am on Thursday, May 21, followed by general public sales from noon on Friday, May 22.
According to the New Straits Times, Chelsea director of football operations Pete Nuttall reportedly said the club were delighted to include the fixture against JDT as the final match of their pre-season tour.
“We are delighted to include this fixture against JDT as the final match of our pre-season tour and make our first visit to the country since a friendly in 2013,” he was quoted as saying in a press statement.
JDT chief executive officer Luis Garcia reportedly said the match was “a milestone” for the club and reflected JDT’s growing stature in Asian football.
Chelsea, founded in 1905, have won six English league titles, two Uefa Champions League titles, two Uefa Europa League titles and eight FA Cups.
JDT have won 12 consecutive Malaysia Super League titles and were the first Malaysian club to win the AFC Cup.
