KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 22 — The introduction ceremony of the 22 teams competing in the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2023 cycling race was held in grand style at Dataran Panoramik here tonight.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim and chairman of the Terengganu Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Development committee Hishamuddin Abdul Karim.
A total of 131 riders representing 22 teams with WorldTeam, ProTeam, Continental and national team status will slog it out in the 27th edition which covers a total race distance of 1,278.1 kilometres traversing 11 states in Peninsular Malaysia.
The September 23-30 LTdL 2023 starts with Stage 1 from Kerteh to Kuala Terengganu, followed by Stage 2 (Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu), Stage 3 (Jeli-Baling), Stage 4 (Bukit Mertajam-Meru Raya), Stage 5 (Slim River-Genting Highlands) , Stage 6 (Karak-Melaka), Stage 7 (Muar-Seremban) and ending with Stage 8 (Setia Alam-Kuala Lumpur).
Earlier, a 300-strong crowd turned up to enliven the ceremony which witnessed the display of the LTdL Trophy for the first time since its organisation.
The Stage 1 race starts from Kerteh to Kuala Terengganu tomorrow, covering a total distance of 187.4km, with all teams facing two category four climbs in Jerangau and Sekayu as well as three sprint routes in Dungun, Ajil and Tok Jamal. — Bernama
