KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Hosts Belgium taught their opponents a lesson in scoring goals by demolishing Malaysia 9-0 in a women’s hockey World League semifinal Group B match at the Fallon Stadium in Brussels, last night.

The loss, Malaysia’s third in as many matches, resulted in the team staying just one spot away from the bottom of Group B and lost any hope of qualifying for the quarterfinals.

Belgium struck as early as the second minute through Anne Sophie Weyns before Aline Fobe made it 2-0 five minutes later and by the 22nd minute Anouk Raes had made it 3-0.

The start of the second half was no different as the Belgium side continued to go the offensive and Stephanie Vanden Borre’s brace in the 33rd and 44th minutes made it 5-0 while Gill Boon added another in the 37th minute to make it 6-0.

Anouk Raes struck a brace in the 48th and 58th minutes after Emma Puvrez had added her name to the score sheet in the 53rd minute. — Bernama
