KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — Hafiz Hashim could became the latest to join BA of Malaysia’s (BAM) national coaching set-up.

The former Nusa Mahsuri player is set to agree terms with BAM after attending an interview yesterday.

BAM are on a massive recruitment drive in line with a restructuring of the coaching committee envisaged by president, Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria.

BAM have already rehired Datuk Misbun Sidek, who was instrumental in Lee Chong Wei’s silver medal heroics in Beijing 2008 and following that the appointment of a new head for their newly built, Badminton Academy in Bukit Kiara.

Hafiz, the All England singles champion in 2003, expressed willingness to join as the new women’s singles coach after a fruitful discussion with BAM’s technical director, Morten Frost said yesterday.

“This matter is still under discussion as this is my first meeting with Frost. I am still playing actively and there are a few things that I have to settle first.

“Hopefully, I can finalise everything in the next meeting.

“It is time for me to share my experience and impart my knowledge to the young players,” said Hafiz, 34.

Hafiz’s addition will strengthened the women’s squad which is helmed by chief coach, Tey Seu Bock and Rony Agustinus.

Hafiz said he is willing to give up playing for the right deal.

“I’ve not accepted anything yet. There are still several details to look into, especially my salary and sponsorship deals.

“If the terms are right, then I’ll be looking at joining BAM after the SEA Games.”

Hafiz has been playing for Petaling Jaya Badminton Club in the Purple League for the past two years.
