SEREMBAN, Oct 8 ― The Malaysian Under-22 squad (U-22) scored their second consecutive victory over Brunei with a 1-0 win in their international friendly at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Paroi Stadium, here today.

Malaysia who beat Brunei 2-0 on Thursday, struck as early as the 10th minute through Muhd Syafiq Ahmad after Ahmad Khairil Anuar Ahmad Zamri put his through with a deceptive pass.

The U-22 squad which is also known as the Sea Games Project squad and coached by Frank Bernhardt from Germany launched several raids but could not translate their advantage into goals.

On Thursday, Muhd Syafiq Ahmad struck both the goals for Malaysia in the 73rd and 83rd minute to ensure the victory.

Bernhardt who had to make several changes to the squad that won 2-0 on Thursday said he was satisfied with the result and performance of his charges.

“Of course we were facing difficulties in the beginning because four of our main players were injured...but in the second half, we lost our focus and lost two or three chances. Anyway, to me, the previous match was much better,” he said.    

He said the team must be fully prepared before the AFC Under-23 qualifying in July and the Sea Games in August next year. ― Bernama
