KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — Academician Dr Mohd Khairi Zawi has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Institute (ISN) effective January 15.
Mohd Khairi, 52, replaces Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz who has served the ISN since 2013, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced in a statement here today.
He said Mohd Khairi has a clear vision in running the ISN with science and sports medicine as core elements in the development of high performance sports as adopted in the New Sports Model.
Mohd Khairi, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Motor and Biomechanic Sports, is currently Head of Graduate Programme (Phd) Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
He also served Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for 17 years and was responsible for founding the Sports Academy and the Sports Studies Department at its Faculty of Education.
Mohd Khairi was also a consultant to review the National Sports Policy 1998, consultant for the Terengganu Sports Development Plan and the 10 Years Sepak Takraw Development Plan of the Terengganu Sports Council.
He was also a panel member for the formulation of the Science Coaching Curriculum of the National Sports Council from 2006-2008 and a member of the Technical and Scientific Special Committee of the Gemilang Programme 2006.
Meanwhile, Khairy said Dr Ramlan will continue to serve in the Ministry of Youth and Sports as adviser to the minister and consultant of sports medicine.
This will give Dr Ramlan the opportunity to specialise in medical research and sports science as one of the branches of the Podium Programme. — Bernama
