KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Four Malaysian gymnasts have been given the nod to compete in next year’s Rio de Janerio Olympics qualifying meet at the World Championships in Glasgow from next week.

SEA Games medallists Tracie Ang, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, Tan Ing Yueh and the only male representative Jeremiah Loo were picked for the championships, which run to November 1.

“I will try my best to secure the tickets,” said Ang, who won three gold and two silver medals at the 30th National Artistic Gymnastic Championship at National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

“The World Championships will feature the world’s best gymnasts and all of us aim to do their best.”

Malacca-born Ang did not compete in the previous championships due to a hip surgery last year.

“I did well. After we grabbed gold at the SEA Games, we are at our peak. Definitely I will give my all for Rio,” she said.

Farah Ann was harping on her new moves at the World Championships.

“The championship today (yesterday) was just a training ground for me to practise my new routines — especially in balance beam and floor exercise,” said the SEA Games double gold medallist.

“I won one gold and a silver today. I did quite well and I am definitely ready for the World Championships next week. My aim is to make the cut for Rio.”

Malaysian Gymnastic Federation president Razak Mat Amin said they are confident of a good outing.

“The four of them are good but we are optimistic Farah can book her spot,” he said.

There are 96 Olympic spots up for grabs but 40 are already taken.

The remaining spots for the taking at the World Championships are for individual apparatus medal winners (gold, silver, bronze).
