KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — National backup men’s doubles pair, Jagdish Singh/Roni Tan Wee Long bagged their first international career title after clinching the 2015 Sydney International Badminton Championship at the Netball Centre in New South Wales, Australia.
The unseeded pair faced stiff resistance from Wei Chen Liu/Yang Po Han of Taiwan before triumping 13-21, 21-17 and 21-11 in 51 minutes, reports the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website. www.bwfbadminton.org.
Jagdish /Wee Long avenged their defeat to Chen Liu/ Po Han, whom they lost to in the opening round of the 2015 Malaysian Masters in Kuching in March.
In the singles, Zulfadli Zulkiffli failed in his bid for his first title of the season, going down 11-21, 12-21 to seasoned campaigner Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam.
Malaysia’s campaign in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles ended in the preliminary round of the tournament, which offers total prize money of US$15,000 (RM66,026). — Bernama
