KUCHING, 25 May — Hitmenten, a revolutionised form of badminton that originates from here targets its inclusion as part of the programmes for the launch of the country’s inaugural National Sports Day on October 10.

Its inventor and former state badminton singles champion in the 1970s, Abdul Rahman Hassan said it could push the sport into the national sports arena.

“I have high hopes for my 2008 creation which contains techniques from golf, tennis, squash and badminton,” he said at the launching of its promotional website www.hitmenten.com by Sarawak Social Development (Youth Development) Assistant Minister here today.

But despite numerous promotional activities done, it had yet to gain the expected foothold among sports fan.

“I see the internet as a possible saviour. Our youth all over the world today are always surfing the internet.

“By having our dedicated website, they can get to know aboout the sports and even register to be a member of our association,” he said at the ceremony.

Rahman said his association had set up its training academy this year at the Dewan Sri Astana here where trainings were done twice a week.

He was optimistic that more academies in all the major towns in the state could be set up by this year.

Abdul Karim in his speech said Hitementen with proper promotion could be accepted by sports loving people in the country and assured the state National Sports Council and his ministry were ready to assist. — Bernama
