DOHA, Dec 1 —Renovations are underway at Qatar’s Khalifa International Stadium in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 40,000. A new single undulating roof will cover the seating area, providing shade to keep football fans cool, Gizmag reports.
Cool air will be pumped into the stands using large chillers in the top tier.
The roof will help contain the air and direct it from the upper tiers, through the lower ones and down to the pitch, keeping the temperature at approximately 26 degrees Celsius.
The stadium, reportedly being built to meet GSAS 4 Star and LEED Gold sustainability certifications, will offer 2,300 parking spaces for buses.”
Specific information regarding how else the stadium is expected to meet the sustainability certifications has not yet been released, according to Gizmodo. — Reuters
