INCHEON, Sept 25 — National shooter Muhammad Ezuan Nasir who shot down a silver medal in the Incheon Asian Games today still cannot believe how quickly
his fortune has changed within a year, especially after being dropped from the National shooting squad last year.
Ezuan who was dropped from the National squad for his poor performances, pulled up his socks to first earn a place in the National squad for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and today won a silver medal in the men’s individual 50m Rifle Prone at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range.
The Royal Malaysian Navy boy gunned down 208.5 points to win the silver behind China’s Zhao Shengbo (209.1 points) although he was not tipped to be among the medal winners before the competition.
Ezuan’s score today also bettered the National record of 207.9 points set by Mohd Shahril Sahak at the Tun Tan Siew Sin Trophy in February.
He said since there was no pressure on him to win and that helped him concentrate on his target rather than thinking of winning.
“Though there were a number of good shooters in the field, I kept my cool...and it eased the pressure. This is my first Asian Games medal and it means the world to me.
“In Glasgow I only managed fifth spot with 139.7 points...I have to thank my parents, the Chief of the Navy, Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar, the National Sports Council and the National Shooting Association of Malaysia for believing in me even when my performance had dropped.
“My next target is to achieve success at higher level competitions like the Olympics, just like the dream of others,” said the 25-year-old from Kuala Lumpur.
Ezuan’s silver medal today was the second from shooting after Nur Suryani Taibi had won a silver medal from the women’s individual 50m Rifle Prone, yesterday. — Bernama
