KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 31 — It is the FA of Malaysia (FAM) and not Frenchman Philippe Troussier who calls the shots in the matter of the coaching job for the national football squad, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said Troussier setting conditions that FAM should not subject him to Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to assess his performance did not make any sense.
“How can this be?” he said in commenting on FAM’s refusal to continue negotiations with the 59-year-old coach, who had coached Japan’s national squad before, for setting various conditions for him to take up the job.
He added that one of the conditions set by the coach was that he be given liberty to end his contract at any time after serving a year with full payment to be made
Khairy was speaking to reporters after launching a Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs’ sports and culture carnival at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) here today.
According to journalist sources, Troussier was to be offered a three-year contract to take charge of the national team but the talks broke down because of the conditions laid down by him. — Bernama
