NAYPYITAW, Dec 20 — Ahmad Amsyar Azman and Ooi Tze Liang continued Malaysia's winning streak in diving when they clinched the country's fifth diving gold medal in the men's 3m synchronised springboard event on the third day of diving competition at the SEA Games in Myanmar today.

Held at the Wunna Theikdi Aquatics Stadium here, they chalked 373.35 points, far ahead of silver medallists Timothy Lee Han and Mark Lee Han Mi of Singapore who collected 336.45 points.

The bronze went to Jamjami Akhmad and Putra Adityo Re of Indonesia with 334.62 points.

The medals were presented by Malaysia's Youth and Sports Ministry secretary-general Datuk Jamil Salleh.

Tze Liang, when met by reporters, said he was delighted with his second gold at the Games after winning the men's 3m springboard individual yesterday.

“I hope to further improve my dives as preparation for the World Grand Prix Diving Series Championships next year,” said the Penangite.

In contrast, Ahmad Amsyar was still unhappy with the points attained today as he had scored more than 400 points in the World Swimming Championship in Barcelona, Spain in July.

“I am rather disappointed with my dive in the fifth round ... luckily my partner Tze Liang made up for my weakness,” said the Perlis diver.

A student of Universiti Malaya, Ahmad Amsyar, who had before this paired with former national diver, Muhammad Fakhrul Izzat, said he was still finding the rhythm with Tze Liang after being teamed up a year ago.

“I need to undergo intensive training to improve my diving for the outing with Tze Liang at the World Grand Prix,” Ahmad Amsyar said.

Meanwhile, Cheong Jun Hoong and Ng Yan Yee won the sixth diving gold in the women's 3m synchronised springboard with 293.70 points.

Eka Indah Purnama and Dewi Setyaningsih of Indonesia won the silver with 249.90 points while the Singaporean pair of Fong Kay Yian and Myra Lee Jia Wen took the bronze medal with 223.53 points.

Yan Yee, 20, when met by reporters was jubilant with her first SEA Games gold medal after winning a silver in the 3m individual springboard behind Jun Hoong on Wednesday.

“I will work harder to further improve my performance,” said Yan Yee.

At the 2011 SEA Games, she won the gold in the same event with national Olympic diver, Leong Mun Yee.

Jun Hoong was equally elated at winning her second gold medal in this Games after delivering a gold medal each in the SEA Games in Vietnam (2003), Philippines (2005), Thailand (2007), Laos (2009) and Indonesia (2011).

Malaysia are expected to sweep the last two diving gold medals in the men's and women's 10m synchronised platform tomorrow. — Bernama
