KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — English Premier League side Liverpool FC's Under-16 side will play two matches in curtain raiser of the 2014 Frenz International Cup U-16 tournament held here next month. 

Local football fans will be able to watch Liverpool in action against Frenz United Malaysia on January 4 at the Selayang Stadium before heading to Indonesia to play against Frenz United Indonesia at the Maguworhorjo Stadium in Jogjakarta on January 7.

The 2014 Frenz International Cup U-16 tournament which offers US$100,000 (RM322,000) as prize money will be co-hosted by Indonesia and Malaysia from January 11 to 26.

The second edition of the tournament will feature 12 teams from Asia, Europe and South America playing in two groups.

Group A which will be played in Malaysia features Frenz United Malaysia, Incheon United (South Korea), Dalian Aerbin (China), Basiktas (Turkey), Internacional FC (Brazil) and Slovakia U-16.

Group B matches to be hosted by Indonesia comprise Frenz United Indonesia, Iran National U-16, Repture FC (Nigeria), E.Frankfurt (Germany), Chanburi FC (Thailand) and Sporting Lisbon (Portugal).

Last year's tournament was won by Slovakia.

The Frenz United Football Academy (FUFA) is a Malaysian football academy set up in 2011 for players between the ages of 13 to 18.

Students are offered full scholarship for up to 5 years, covering the cost of all accommodation, professional football training and coaching services, education, transportation and attires.

The current academy is located on 12 acres of private land in Janda Baik, Pahang, Malaysia.

Last year the Frenz International Cup which took place in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 28, 2012 to January 6, 2013 involved eight teams. — Bernama
