KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — The national junior men's hockey team created history after qualifying for the Hockey Junior World Cup Men 2013.
The squad under the guidance of Muhammad Dharma Raj Abdullah beat South Korea 2-1 in the quarterfinals at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi, India, today.
Both Malaysian goals were contributed by Shahril Saabah who scored a field goal in the 18th minute and later converted a penalty corner in the 62nd minute.
South Korea's solitary goal came from Anda Seungju one minute before the first half ended.
Malaysia is scheduled to face France, who beat Belgium 5-4, in the semifinals tomorrow.
For the record, the last time Malaysia played in the semifinals of the Hockey Junior World Cup was in 1985 in Vancouver, Canada. — Bernama
