BARRANQUILLA (Colombia), Oct 12 — Colombia staged a stunning fight-back to clinch their place at the 2014 World Cup yesterday, recovering from 3-0 down to snatch a thrilling 3-3 draw against 10-man Chile.

Monaco striker Radamel Falcao scored twice from the penalty spot late on to give Colombia the point they needed, which sees them become the second South American qualifiers behind Argentina to book their place at next year's finals in Brazil, who qualify as host.

The result left Colombia with 27 points heading into next week's final round of fixtures, guaranteeing them one of the four automatic qualifying spots.

It is the first time Colombia have qualified for the World Cup since their appearance at the 1998 finals in France. — AFP
