GEORGE TOWN, Aug 30 — The Football Association of Penang (FAP) has allocated RM8 million to prepare the state squad for their Premier League outing next season.

Its president Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff Mushir Ariff said the FAP would source for imported players and coaches to form a professional team as they did not want to be label as only village champions.

“We are determined to be champions of the Super League in four years. We will use the 2+2 formula, two years to be champions of the Premier League and two more years to hunt for the Super League title,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng here yesterday.

In an FAP extraordinary meeting on August 20, Nazir Ariff was appointed FAP president replacing Mohd Foaz Abdul Hamid who resigned last month.

Penang which took the FAM League title this season after playing for two seasons, qualified for the Premier League next year.

Earlier, the state government through Penang Water Supply Corporation handed over RM1 million to FAP. — Bernama
