SINGAPORE, Sept 9 — Annual data centre investment in Singapore is seen rising to US$19.2 billion (RM77.9 billion) by 2050 from about US$7 billion in 2026, PwC’s central forecast showed today, reported Xinhua.

Cumulative investment is projected at about US$330 billion over 2026-2050, representing annual growth of around 4.3 per cent. The estimate covers both data centre construction and information and communications technology (ICT) equipment.

In 2026, ICT equipment investment is expected to account for about US$5 billion, while construction investment is estimated at US$2 billion. By 2050, annual ICT investment is forecast to reach US$16.6 billion, compared with about US$2.5 billion for construction.

PwC said Singapore faces both an opportunity and a constraint as demand for data centres continues to grow, with scarce land and power, requiring investment to be directed towards workloads that generate the greatest strategic and economic value.

Across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, PwC forecasts cumulative data centre investment of about US$1.29 trillion from 2026 to 2050.

Annual investment across the six markets is projected to increase to US$9.7 billion by 2050 from roughly US$36 billion in 2026, with Singapore accounting for about one-quarter of the regional total. — Bernama-Xinhua
