SINGAPORE, July 29 — A Singaporean man was reportedly fined S$5,000 (RM15,828) and banned from driving for six months today after driving a Porsche with his two young sons sitting on its boot.
Singapore’s CNA reported that Prem Anan Sugunakumar, 40, pleaded guilty to committing a rash act that endangered personal safety.
The court reportedly heard that Prem placed his sons, then aged eight and seven, on the boot facing backwards before driving at a moderate speed along Dairy Farm Lane in Bukit Panjang on October 20 last year.
His wife reportedly filmed the incident, which Prem later posted on TikTok, while another motorist who witnessed it lodged a police report the same day.
Prem was quoted as saying that he had wanted to spend time with his sons and thought the ride would be an “enjoyable experience”, despite knowing it could endanger them.
Prosecutors reportedly sought the maximum fine and a six-month driving ban, saying it was fortunate that the children were not injured and that Prem had deliberately placed them in danger.
The court also reportedly heard that he had committed more than 15 traffic violations between 2004 and 2020, including speeding, inconsiderate driving and unauthorised parking.
His lawyer reportedly sought a lower fine, citing Prem’s early guilty plea, remorse, close involvement in his sons’ lives and charitable activities.
Deputy Principal District Judge Kessler Soh reportedly described the offence as extremely serious and expressed concern over Prem’s driving record, but accepted that a jail term was not warranted.
