SINGAPORE, July 24 — The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) yesterday launched Valour, its second Victory-class Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV), a next-generation warship designed to be rapidly reconfigured for missions ranging from high-end maritime operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam said the vessel would strengthen the RSN’s operational capabilities by enabling it to adapt quickly to a wide range of missions amid an evolving security environment.
“The future security environment continues to evolve. We will not be able to predict every challenge that we will face.
“But we can build platforms that can adapt and respond to a wide range of scenarios, and evolve alongside those challenges,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said the MRCV is designed to serve as a mothership for unmanned aerial, surface and underwater systems during naval operations.
It will also be equipped with advanced sensors, weapon systems and network capabilities, enabling it to address a wide range of threats while serving as a command ship.
“Designed with advanced automation, the MRCV will be able to operate safely and effectively with a smaller crew than other warships of comparable size and capability,” Mindef said in a statement.
Mindef said MRCV Valour will undergo outfitting, platform and combat systems integration, as well as acceptance trials, before being delivered as part of the progressive rollout of the MRCVs from 2028 onwards. — Bernama
