SINGAPORE, July 18 — A 56-year-old British national has been arrested after allegedly embarking on a shoplifting spree across multiple terminals at Changi Airport.
The man was apprehended on July 16 following a series of thefts that spanned six different retail outlets in Terminals 2 and 3, The Straits Times reported.
The spree came to light after staff at The Shilla Cosmetics & Perfumes outlet in the Terminal 3 transit area spotted a missing item from their Chanel display shelf at 9:22 pm.
Airport Police Division officers quickly reviewed CCTV footage, which showed the man taking the item and walking out without paying. Using the footage, police tracked the suspect down and arrested him within the transit area just before his scheduled departure flight.
Subsequent investigations revealed the scale of the theft. The man had allegedly targeted five other shops, stealing a variety of items including perfumes, keychains, and a bracelet. Police have since recovered all the stolen goods, with the total value estimated at over S$1,200 (RM3,800).
The suspect faces charges of theft in a dwelling on July 18. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both.
