KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Godzilla Minus Zero has received an official Malaysian release date, with Toho Entertainment Asia announcing last night that the highly anticipated sequel will arrive in cinemas on Nov 5.

The announcement was also confirmed by local cinema chains GSC and TGV on social media, with both teasing the return of the King of the Monsters.

The film will also screen in IMAX from Nov 5.

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the direct sequel to Godzilla Minus One has generated considerable excitement among fans in Malaysia and around the world, with its latest teaser already amassing more than 2.3 million views on YouTube.

The announcement is particularly significant for Malaysian audiences, as Godzilla Minus One did not receive a regular nationwide theatrical release.

The previous film was a critical and commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese-produced Godzilla film of all time.

It also made history by winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, the franchise’s first Oscar.

Expectations are similarly high for the sequel.

In April, Yamazaki said in a social media video that he was determined to make another film that Godzilla fans around the world would love.

Excitement was also evident on GSC and TGV’s social media pages following the Malaysian release-date announcement, with fans leaving comments such as “It’s gonna be epic” alongside numerous celebratory emojis.

Malaysia’s enthusiasm for the iconic monster has also been evident this year, particularly after South-east Asia’s first permanent official Godzilla Store opened in January at Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport BBCC in Kuala Lumpur.

Besides Malaysia, Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled for theatrical release in several Asian markets, including the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia and Brunei.

The film will also see Ryunosuke Kamiki return as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Shikishima, with the story set two years after the events of the first film.
