KUALA LUMPUR, September 14 — Singer and actress Selena Gomez appeared visibly confused during Olivia Rodrigo’s MTV Video Music Award performance.

Rodrigo was performing her hit song Vampire on Tuesday when the stage pyrotechnics seemingly began malfunctioning, before she was quickly escorted offstage by a staff member.

The whole ‘fiasco’ however was all part of the act as the fake stage mishap transitioned into her next song.

In a now-viral video clip, Gomez is seen covering her ears as she watches Rodrigo’s performance looking overwhelmed by the loud stage glitches.

Online users began misinterpreting that Gomez allegedly did not enjoy Rodrigo’s singing, but Gomez quickly disproved those claims in an Instagram story yesterday.

“I heard a loud noise and it scared me,” Gomez wrote.

“I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.”

The Come and Get It singer also went viral for her reaction to Chris Brown’s name being called out as a nominee for Best R&B.

She was seen scrunching her face in displeasure accompanied by some side-eye when Brown’s name was announced.

Brown pleaded guilty to physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 and has been accused of assault and misconduct in multiple incidents over the years.

Gomez left the VMAs as a winner as she took home the award for Best Afrobeats for her song Come Down with Nigerian rapper Rema.
