KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — The annual Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) will be returning to its physical format this year from June 23 to 25.

To be held at the Sarawak Cultural Village, this year’s RWMF will be headlined by Grammy award-winning band from France, Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo.

Festival-goers will get the chance to see the flamenco, salsa and pop band perform some of their greatest hits such as Bamboleo as well as Djobi Djoba live.

RWMF will also see 198 local and international performers from 24 groups taking the stage.

The international acts include Big Mountain (Jamaica), Safi Theatre (Tanzania), Rastak (Iran), Fasylive (Maldives), Afriquoi (United Kingdom) as well as Chatusram (Indian).

Local performers include Zee Avi, Sada Borneo, Nading Rhapsody, At Adau as well as Tuku Kame.

As reported by Astro Awani, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor said they were expecting over 20,000 festival goers coming for the 26th RWMF.

"Looking back at the 26 years journey, I’m happy because STB has done their work and I’m proud to witness and be part of the inception of RWMF- from a humble beginning to being recognised as an international music festival.

"We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next 25 years while also moving towards making RWMF a platform in Sarawak that promotes sustainability and eco tourism for the next generation of music lovers,” she said.

Last year, the festival was held in a hybrid format which included physical and virtual performances while in 2021, the festival was done virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tickets will start from RM190 for a one-day pass up to RM650 for a three-day pass. They will go on sale from April 15.
