KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — American actor Jeremy Renner was trying to stop his snow plough from sliding and hitting his nephew during the accident on January 1.
Quoting a report by the Nevada sheriff’s office, CNN reported that the 52-year-old Avengers star got crushed by the vehicle as he tried to save a family member from being run over by a snow plough.
“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake.
“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward.”
The report said when Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to his nephew, he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.
It also noted that the brake indicator light inside the truck’s cab was not functioning and mechanical issues may have been a factor in the accident.
The incident happened on New Year’s Day when Renner towed his nephew’s truck off his driveway after it had been stuck in the snow, he was quoted saying in the report.
“After towing the truck into the street, the snow plough began sliding sideways and rolling down the hill.”
At that point, Renner jumped out of the truck and realised it was heading directly toward his nephew.
“He feared the truck was going to hit his nephew, so he decided to attempt to stop or divert it,” said the report.
The incident left Renner with extensive injuries with over 30 broken bones.
He was hospitalised with blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries.
