KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 ― The official trailer for the upcoming local supernatural thriller film, Pulau, is out and is currently receiving flak online.

This is mostly due to some of its sexy and steamy scenes ― from actresses wearing bikinis to a few milliseconds of kissing and love making scenes.

Pulau, produced by My Way Pictures in collaboration with Film Force Studios, boasted a few local big names including Alif Satar, Amelia Henderson, Sanjna Suri as well as former OnlyFans figure Ms PuiYi.

The film trailer follows a group of friends who are vacationing together and after a daring bet, the group sets out to a mysterious island where darkness awaits.

Following its trailer release over the weekend, the film has been bombarded with comments from local social media users with most of them condemning the sexy scenes in the trailer.

Some social media users were baffled on how the film managed to get through the Malaysian Film Censorship Board (LPF) in the first place.

“Great, congratulations Malaysia! Their outfits, it’s like watching a Hollywood movie,” commented Facebook user Nur Farah Liyana Affendi.

“Whoever released this film is trash. The same goes to those associated with it. Such a shame to the country with no integrity,” tweeted user @mokmeen7.

“When we say we want our country to be on par with other countries, we don’t mean to include unnecessary sex scenes in films. I’m baffled by this nation's film industry,” tweeted user @bby.

Aside from the film trailer, social media users were also seen calling out the official film poster for its similarities to the 2020 thriller film, Fantasy Island.

“Is that a copy of the Fantasy Island poster?” commented user rosnadiaamira.

“Are you guys really that desperate for ideas up to the point you had to copy off Fantasy Island,” Tweeted user @minafandi.

On YouTube, the official trailer for Pulau has garnered over 200,000 views and is currently trending at number three on Malaysia’s YouTube.
