KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Taiwanese singer Harlem Yu has expressed support for his son Harrison’s love of cross-dressing.

During a Chinapress interview, Harlem said he “fully supports his son so long as he is happy and healthy”.

Harrison, who is the son of Harlem and ex-wife Annie Yi, gained attention online after sharing pictures of himself in drag.

Some online users have been quick to judge Harrison for dressing up in drag; one Weibo user called him “a disgrace to men”.

According to Harlem, he admires Harrison’s artistic talent and wants to ask his son to create art pieces for him to hang up in his home.

The 61-year-old shared how his own father’s support for his love of music motivated him greatly to pursue his passion.

“The way my dad handled things back then had a very big impact on me. It was only later that I realised how much he supported me and cared for me,” Harlem said.

During an interview on Chinese variety show My Ideal Home in December 2020, ex-wife Annie also supported her son’s cross-dressing.

Harrison had reached out to Annie if she would be negatively impacted if he posted pictures of himself in drag.

“I told him that he doesn’t have to bear any responsibility for anything that comes from his mum and dad's careers,” Yi said.

“I said, yes, from today onwards, you are free. Remember that. You can be yourself completely.”

Harrison, 20, currently majors in film directing at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
