KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — It’s a bird, it’s a plane ... no, it’s Henry Cavill announcing his return as the Man of Steel.

Following years of speculation, the ‘Kryptonian’ is finally out of the box. Yesterday, Cavill took to his Instagram to officially announce that he will reprise his role as Superman in future DC films.

This is after his mid-credit cameo in the latest DC film, Black Adam, which was released in Malaysian cinemas on October 20.

A photo of Cavill in the iconic red and blue suit can be seen in the short video before it cut to an announcement by the Hollywood actor himself.

According to Cavill, he waited until the weekend was over before putting up the video as he wanted fans to get a chance to enjoy the movie first.

"But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman. And the images you see in this post and what you see in Black Adam is just a very small taste of things to come.

"There’s a lot to be thankful for and I’ll get to that in time, but I want to thank you guys most of all; thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded,”Cavill said in the video.

Cavill's announcement has been viewed over 13 million times at the time of writing. It has garnered over two million likes, with fans wishing The Witcher star well.

"Welcome back bro. Told people not to give up hope! Can't wait for the world to see what you have in store,” graphic artist Bosslogic commented.

"Welcome back brotha! Time to continue the journey!” Hollywood producer Hiram Garcia said.

"DC finally did something right, well deserved!” commented user @ivanhadlich.

Cavill first put on the Superman cape back in 2010 after he was casted by director Zack Snyder for 2013’s Man of Steel.

He reprised the role for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the controversial Justice League in 2017. The latter was re-released on HBO Go as Justice League: The Snyder Cut, a four hours extended cut in 2021.

In 2018, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Cavill’s Superman character was in doubt following a creative overhaul at DC.

However, over the years, the actor remained optimistic and told the media that he would always be open to returning to the role.
