SHANGHAI, June 30 — Shuttle Life, a Malaysian production starring award-winning Taiwanese filmmaker Sylvia Chang and Malaysian singer-actor Jack Tan, recently nabbed several notable accolades at the New Talent Awards portion of the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).
The film was nominated in four categories and walked away with three wins in total, losing only the Best Director title.
It won the Best Film award as well as Best Cinematography for Taiwanese cinematographer Chen Ko-chin and Best Actor for male lead Jack Tan.
Tan, who is also one half of the pop duo Thomas Jack, expressed his gratitude for the win by posting a short message on the duo’s Facebook page conveying his happiness and wish to share the joy with everyone.
In the film, Tan stars as Qiang, who has to take care of his mentally unstable mother and five-year-old sister, Hui Shan. Qiang is stuck in a predicament when Hui Shan dies in an accident but he is unable to claim her body as he can’t prove their familial relationship.
Shuttle Life, directed by Malaysian filmmaker Tan Seng Kiat, previously won the grand prize of the 2014 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion in Taiwan during its pre-production stage, earning it a cash grant of one million Taiwan dollar (RM141,025).
The 20th Shanghai International Film Festival took place in China from 17 to 26 June 2017. — Cinema Online
