SINGAPORE, Nov 18 — Now that we have all had a few months to get over the epic romance of Descendants of the Sun, it’s time to look forward to what industry watchers expect will be South Korea’s next big hit.

Legend of the Blue Sea, starring Korean mega stars Lee Min Ho (Boys Over Flowers) and Jun Ji Hyun (known for her role as The Girl in romantic comedy My Sassy Girl), reportedly started a bidding war earlier this year among media platforms eager to obtain distribution rights.

The 20-episode comedy drama is written by Park Ji Eun — also the screenwriter behind the 2013 hit drama My Love From The Star — and director Jin Hyuk (The Master’s Sun, City Hunter).

If that still does not intrigue you, here are five other reasons why you should catch the drama:

1.  Legend of the Blue Sea tells the story of the world’s last mermaid (Jun) and her relationship with a genius conman played by Lee, which means we’ll get to see Lee in a bikini. Just kidding, we meant we’ll see Jun Ji Hyun in a bikini. Or will we?

2.  This is Jun’s first drama role since she gave birth to a baby boy in February this year, and also her first since the popular My Love From The Star, which co-starred Kim Soo Hyun. The Legend of the Blue Sea also marks Lee’s return to the small screen since the 2013 hit The Heirs, and will likely be his last television series before he begins military service next year.

3.  Parts of The Legend of the Blue Sea were filmed in picturesque Palau and Spain — so you won’t have to leave home to enjoy amazing views!

4.  Laniege’s Two-tone Lip Bar, also known as the Song Hye Kyo lipstick, became a bestseller thanks to Descendants of the Sun, which means we’ll only need to watch what Jun wears for the latest trends in waterproof make-up.

5.  You are going to be able to spend two days a week staring at the very good-looking Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho. Need we say more? — TODAY

* Legend Of The Blue Sea premieres on ONE (Singtel TV Ch 513 and 604, StarHub TV Ch 124, 820 and 823) on Nov 17 and airs every Thursday and Friday at 8.10pm, within 24 hours of the Korean telecast.
