Singapore, Sept 7 — With The Blue Socks awareness campaign, Desmond Tan hopes that all the dogs out there who are in need of a good home will have the opportunity to be as well cared for as his own dogs, social-media stars Udon Tan and Hoshi Tan. Just how pampered are they?
And how much of a crazy dog person is Desmond?
Q: Udon and Hoshi are very lucky to have a good home. In your house, who is number one?
A: I’m number one. I’m the pack leader! But of course, once in a while, they step all over me. I allow them to. Once in a while, I put them on my bed, which I’m not supposed to do. So, they sleep with me on some nights.
Q: Who is the bigger diva, Hoshi or Udon?
A: Udon for sure. Hoshi is very needy. Udon is super diva. When I call, he won’t come over. The only way to get him over is (by offering) treats. But nowadays (since he has been neutered) he’s so much better. (Still) I’m more like a helper to him. On some days when I’m out for long hours, I have to drive home just to feed him, and go out again. Sometimes, I wonder who’s the master.
Q: How has being a dog dad changed your life?
A: I really encourage people to have pets because they take you away from a stray kind of life where you spend your time partying all night. I mean, it’s fun once in a while, but in the long term, it harms your body. The dog is the best excuse not to go out for such things. People will ask me out and I’ll say, ‘Cannot. I have to stay home to take care of the dogs.’
Q: Will you be adopting more dogs?
A: I would like to adopt another animal — any animal. I’ve thought about adopting a rabbit. I heard Show Luo bought a place just for abandoned animals. I think that’s very beautiful. If I’m that rich one day, I’ll buy a space that can hold animals. — TODAY
