LOS ANGELES, Aug 12 — Sony Pictures has pushed back the release date for Daniel Espinosa’s sci-fi movie Life, with the film now slated to debut on Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 2017.

The film — which stars Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Ferguson — was originally set for a March 24, 2017 release date, but will now go head-to-head with the next instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise Dead Men Tell No Tales and an as-yet-untitled Universal comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader, and Seth Rogen (via Collider).

Boasting a script penned by Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the feature follows the journey of a group of astronauts who discover signs of intelligent life in a sample retrieved from Mars.

Life, co-financed by Skydance Media Life, has David Ellison and Dana Goldberg attached to produce along with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. — AFP-Relaxnews
