SINGAPORE, Aug 11 — Fans of British comedian Jimmy Carr will have to wait a little longer to see his show, Funny Business.
Carr, who is making his Singapore debut, was supposed to perform at the University Cultural Centre Hall, National University of Singapore, on Aug 26 and 27, but show organisers LA Comedy Live and Adrian Bohm Presents have announced that, due to a change in Carr’s filming commitments, his Singapore show dates have been rescheduled to Sept 13 and 14.
“We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience caused but Jimmy looks forward to seeing everyone at the shows on the new dates,” the organisers said in a statement.
The new dates are Sept 13, 8pm; and Sept 14, 8pm. Both shows will be at the University Cultural Centre Hall, National University of Singapore,
Organisers also said that tickets for the original show booking will be valid for the corresponding new show at the same venue and start time.
“If you are unable to attend the new date, you will be eligible for a full refund,” they added.
Carr’s show in Singapore is the latest in a string of shows by LA Comedy Live in recent years, which has staged shows by the likes of John Cleese, Michael McIntyre, Chris Tucker, Dylan Moran, Margaret Cho, Bill Bailey, Bill Burr and Rob Schneider.
Carr’s career is not without controversy: In 2009, he cracked a joke about British amputee soldiers who returned to Britain (“Say what you like ... but we’re going to have a f***ing good Paralympic team in 2012”) that caused a furore.
He later apologised: “I’m sorry if anyone was offended, but that’s the kind of comedy I do.”
He also had to apologise in 2012 for “a terrible error of judgement” pertaining to his involvement in an alleged K2 tax avoidance scheme.
He later pulled out from the scheme.
As if proving that there is no such thing as bad publicity, viewing figures of the episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats, recorded on the day of his apology and broadcast the following day, almost doubled compared with the previous week. — TODAY
