LOS ANGELES, July 18 — The modern remake of Ghostbusters by director Paul Feig has topped the worldwide box office this weekend, drawing US$65.1 million to the cinemas after its international debut, according to tracking company comScore’s official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of July 17, 2016.
Hot on its heels is the well-performing Secret Life of Pets, which brought in US$55.0 million although it is still to unleash in 57 more markets, followed by 20th Century Fox’s hit Ice Age: Collision Course on US$53.5 million, and Disney’s Finding Dory on US$47.5 million.
Legend of Tarzan by Warner Bros rounded out the top 5, but lagged this weekend in comparison, tallying only US$33.1m in the box office estimates globally.
Independence Day: Resurgence (US$19.6 million), Now You See Me 2 (US$18.2 million), Cold War 2 (US$17.3 million), Universal’s Central Intelligence (US$15.3 million), and When Larry Met Mary (US$15.0 million), made up the international top 10 in this weekend’s box office estimates.
