HONG KONG, Dec 3 — There may be 23 years separating them, but Hong Kong superstar Aaron Kwok believes his new May-December romance with Chinese model Moka Fang is off to a good start.

Yesterday, he opened up to entertainment reporters at a function in Hong Kong about the age gap. Fang is 27 to Kwok’s 50.

He was quoted by Ming Pao and Apply Daily as saying, “For two people to get along, it isn’t about age. It’s about their minds and interests,” he said, before adding in jest, “Age is really not a problem, and besides, I don’t look it.”

Fang is the first girlfriend Kwok has openly acknowledged in his decades in show business.

On Tuesday, the notoriously private singer and actor dropped a massive surprise on his fans.

He posted a photo of two clasped hands in front of a dashboard of a left-hand drive car on his official Weibo account.

It was accompanied by the caption: “You have to drive a little slower like this.”

He also tagged Fang’s Weibo account at the end of the post, and sealed his announcement with a heart emoticon.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Kwok also said that he felt the time was right for him to conduct a romance in the public eye without worrying about it affecting his career.

“I’m going public with the relationship because the timing is right. I want to go public because I want to date sincerely and honestly, and also hope to receive blessings,” he said.

He added: “My thinking is mature now. Going public won’t affect my work.”

Yet, despite expressing his desire to settle down and start a family during his birthday celebrations last month, he cautioned everyone not to jump the gun.

“Although I don’t know what the future holds, I’m brave. Marriage is another stage, I’ll leave it to heaven to decide,” he was quoted as saying.

But has he made the all-important introduction to his mother yet?

Kwok replied, “It should be the next step. I hope my mother is happy.”
