HONG KONG, Dec 2 — Hong Kong actor and singer Edison Chen has spoken in detail about his 2008 sex photo scandal, saying that it was “an accident.”
In a documentary called “Being EDC”, which aired on Monday on web magazine Vice China, Chen hit out at people who had criticised him following the scandal, calling them “jealous” and “brainless.”
He was quoted as saying by AsiaOne, “Many people have asked what I would change if I could go back in time, but my answer is that I would not change a thing.
“I am very happy now. Even though some unhappy incidents have occurred in the past, I never had any evil intent and did not do those things on purpose. They were an accident.”
Chen said that prior to the scandal he seemed to have thousands of friends, but after the incident many disappeared from his life or denied even knowing him.
“I learned more about myself in the process and found meaning in my life,” he added.
The 2008 Hong Kong sex photo scandal saw private photos of Chen and several female celebrities, such as Cecilia Cheung and Gillian Chung, leaked onto the Internet, after he sent his laptop for repair.
Chen subsequently issued a public apology, before announcing an indefinite hiatus from the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
