LOS ANGELES, Jan 28 ― Deadline.com reports that the network has ordered a pilot episode of “The Money Pit,” a comedy series adapted from the 1986 movie.

Before “Philadelphia,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Forrest Gump,” Tom Hanks starred in Richard Benjamin's comedy “The Money Pit” alongside “Cheers” star Shelley Long. The two actors played Walter and Anna, who move into a house that appears to be in decent shape but is falling apart from the inside, causing them to sink all of their money into repairs. “The Money Pit” was itself a remake of the 1948 film “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House,” which starred Cary Grant.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television will produce the proposed comedy series, and the pilot episode will be penned by “The Office” screenwriter Justin Spitzer.

Pilot fever at NBC

Including this latest series, NBC has ordered no less than 24 pilots for the 2014/2015 season. In the comedy department, the network hopes to team up again with Tina Fey, the producer of a new series starring Ellie Kemper, and with Amy Poehler, who is developing “Old Soul.” Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are producing two potential shows for the network: “Mission Control” and “Bad Judge,” the latter starring Kate Walsh (“Private Practice”). Rob Lowe is also in line to join the network next season as the star of “The Pro.”

Among the ten proposed drama series NBC is looking into for this fall are “Babylon Fields” from “Dexter” and “Homeland” producer Michael Cuesta, an adaptation of the “Constantine” comics, a dark take on the “Wizard of Oz” story titled “Emerald City,” and “State of Affairs” with Katherine Heigl. ― AFP-Relaxnews
