KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Malaysia’s stock market remains stable for now, supported by transparent government policies and a conducive environment that encourages foreign fund inflows, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The stock market’s current performance reflects the stability of Malaysia’s capital market, despite global geopolitical shifts and uncertainties.
“We will see stock prices fluctuate — rising and falling — because of many unfolding events worldwide. We are currently in a phase where global geopolitics are undergoing significant changes.
“The key point, nonetheless, is that Malaysia’s stock market remains stable. And this stability is assured because the government maintains transparent policies and has put in place measures that support the inflow of foreign funds,” he said at the Ministers’ Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to Datuk Awang Hashim’s (PN-Pendang) supplementary question, who asked whether a drop in stock value exceeding RM1 billion could impact Malaysia’s economy, and factors driving foreign investors to withdraw their investments.
Amir Hamzah said stock market stability continues to be bolstered by high inflows of foreign direct investment, following the volume of approved investments in Malaysia. — Bernama
