KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Thursday but retreated shortly after, tracking weaker Wall Street performance overnight as sentiment was weighed down by surging US Treasury yields.
At 9.34am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) declined 10.55 points, or 0.65 per cent, to 1,601.23 from Wednesday’s close of 1,611.78. The index opened 1.67 points higher at 1,613.45.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said the US 10-year Treasury yield touched a 24-year high of 5.365 per cent before easing to 5.286 per cent.
“As for Hong Kong equities, the Hang Seng Index declined after a two-day uptrend as sentiment turned cautious following a strengthening in crude oil prices, with Brent crude returning above the US$101 (RM412) per barrel threshold,” he told Bernama.
On the domestic front, he said the FBM KLCI was trading at a relatively low 15 times price-to-earnings ratio at Wednesday’s close, presenting an attractive opportunity for bargain hunting.
“Therefore, we expect the index to trend between the 1,605-1,620 range today,” he said.
