WASHINGTON, Aug 31 — Heavy rainfall in June and July has affected the quality of Brazil’s 2026-2027 coffee harvest in Brazil and reduced the amount of premium coffee, Marcio Ferreira, the chairman of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council, told RIA Novosti.
“The quality of the 2026-2027 harvest was significantly impacted by rains, which fell mainly in late June and July. Dry weather in the second half of July and in August should improve the situation, but overall, we will receive less high-quality coffee, depulped coffee, and specialty coffee,” he said.
Ferreira said the heaviest rainfall was recorded in southern Minas Gerais state, particularly in the Cerrado Mineiro region, as well as partly in the Mogiana region. The rains also significantly delayed harvesting.
“The impact of rainfall on the 2026-2027 harvest will end after all the coffee has been harvested. However, the impact of rainfall will be reflected in the quality of the resulting product,” Ferreira explained.
The harvest is expected to be completed in early September. After that, it will be possible to assess the volume of coffee in various quality categories that Brazil will be able to supply to the market this season. — Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
