KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) wholly-owned subsidiary, MAB Engineering Services, has sealed a 15-year lease for Hangar 4 airframe maintenance facility at Complex A, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport).
To that effect, MAB Engineering, which is a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility operator, has signed a letter of offer and acceptance from Impeccable Vintage Properties (IVP), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
MAB Engineering accepted the letter of offer for a long-term lease of 15 years, with an option to renew for an additional 15 years.
However, this is subject to the signing of the lease agreement, of which the lease terms remain confidential.
IVP, tasked by the Malaysian government to revive and redevelop Complex A, will recondition and refurbish Hangar 4’s MRO infrastructure and facilities, including the incorporation of sustainability elements and a re-design of the hangar floor to cater for a maximum of five production lines, capable of serving a variety of aircraft types from propellers to narrowbody and widebody aircraft.
Currently, MAB Engineering operates 12 production lines across three (3) hangars: Hangar 1 at Subang Airport for turboprop aircraft maintenance, and Hangars 5 and 6 at KL International Airport (KLIA) for narrowbody and widebody aircraft maintenance.
MAG chief executive officer (CEO) of aviation services Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri said MAB Engineering is actively exploring expansion opportunities for production lines and expanding its component repair management services that will make it a one-stop solution for MRO services.
“The decision to secure Hangar 4 underscores our commitment to maximising future potential in the global MRO market and reinforces our position as a key player in the aviation hub.
“As we continue to evolve and adapt to the dynamic aviation landscape, we remain committed to delivering exceptional maintenance services to meet the demands of the industry and our valued customers,” he said in a statement today.
IVP CEO Fuad Sharuji said that investments in refurbishing the MRO hangars at SZB airport are part of its strategic commitment to cement the growth of Malaysia’s aviation sector.
“We want to attract leading and global companies to establish its long-term presence and operations at Complex A.
“The MRO ecosystem will also contribute to enhancing human capital through upskilling and creating highly skilled jobs,” he said.
MAB Engineering holds 18 regulatory certifications, encompassing Malaysia’s CAAM, European EASA, United States FAA, and other foreign authorities. — Bernama
