KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — LBS Bina Group Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Hock San has joined the ranks of Malaysian professional engineers after he was awarded the “Ir” title.

To be given the “Ir” title, one must be registered under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 and licensed to practise engineering in Malaysia.

Lim, 65, was awarded the title for his achievements and competencies in the engineering school, Board of Engineers Malaysia’s President, Datuk Ir Ahmad Redza Ghulam Rasool said.

“With his vast experience and invaluable contributions to the engineering and construction industry, he has directly uplifted our nation in the development sector,” Ahmad Redza said in a report by The Star.

In a congratulatory message, Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) past president Ir David Lai Kong Phooi said Lim’s accomplishments and contributions in the field of engineering exemplify the highest standards of excellence and also motivated many young Malaysians engineers.

Lim, 65, graduated with first class honours in Civil Engineering from the University of Wales in 1982.

He had then joined the family business which at the time included lorry transportation and construction.

Within two decades, the company had extended its growth to investments in real estate development, insurance, and tourism.

On December 6, 2001, Lim was named managing director of LBS and in March 1, 2021 he was appointed executive chairman following the retirement of Datuk Seri Lim Bock Seng.

He currently holds directorship in several subsidiaries in the LBS Group, and is an executive vice chairman of MGB Bhd.
