KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 ― Bursa Malaysia turned higher at mid-morning today on mild bargain hunting in selected heavyweights.

At 11.06am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose by 2.32 points to 1,490.51 from yesterday's close of 1,488.19.

The key index opened 0.35 of-a-point weaker at 1,487.84.

On the broader market, gainers surpassed decliners 420 to 310, while 371 counters were unchanged, 1,112 untraded and 16 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.68 billion units worth RM839.97 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank lost 2.0 sen to RM8.78, Public Bank, Petronas Chemicals and Tenaga Nasional were all flat at RM4.18, RM8.22 and RM9.95 respectively. CIMB added 1.0 sen to RM5.44.

As for the actives, both MYEG and Perdana Petroleum gained 1.0 sen to 70.5 sen and 19.5 sen, Betamek increased by 4.5 sen to 62.5 sen while Iris was flat at 12 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index advanced 24.91 points to 10,851.55, the FBMT 100 Index climbed 24.86 points to 10,518.35 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index went up 40.64 points to 11,214.65, the FBM ACE Index strengthened by 25.52 points to 5,736.36 and the FBM 70 Index gained 68.79 points to 13,718.08.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index lost 0.09 of a point to 190.62, the Financial Services Index grew 8.32 points to 16,169.38, the Plantation Index was 51.86 points firmer at 6,954.76 and the Energy Index improved 1.77 points to 894.41. ― Bernama
