The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 5.12 points to 1,630.96, after moving between 1,631.12 and 1,623.58 throughout the day.
The market barometer opened 4.17 points higher at 1,630.01.
Among heavyweights, Petronas Gas chalked up 34 sen to RM21.52, British American Tobacco perked 26 sen to RM50.05 and RHB Capital rose 14 sen to RM6.06.
A dealer said the local stock market's uptrend was also in line with the regional market which took the cue from sharp gains in European and US financial shares.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index added 17.82 points to 11,412.03, the FBMT100 Index gained 22.76 points to 11,106.64 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 19.359 points higher at 11,948.76.
The FBM 70 declined 16.721 points to 12,908.56 and the FBM Ace fell 50.67 points to 5,526.73.
The Finance Index jumped 55.31 points to 14,234.39, the Plantation Index increased 12.28 points to 7,465.75 and the Industrial Index garnered 19.34 points to 3,084.31.
Losers outpaced gainers 510 to 302 with 360 counters unchanged, 571 untraded and 14 others were suspended.
Volume rose slightly to 1.73 billion units worth RM1.81 billion from yesterday's 1.72 billion units worth RM1.77 billion.
Among actives, AirAsia X lost 1.5 sen to 38.5 sen, Vivocom erased two sen to 29 sen, China Automobile Parts slipped half-a-sen to five sen and AirAsia fell six sen to RM2.26.
Main Market turnover rose to 1.19 billion shares worth RM1.71 billion from yesterday's 1.16 billion shares worth RM1.68 billion.
The ACE Market volume fell to 405.35 million shares valued at RM76.01 million versus 449.36 million shares valued at RM73.54 million yesterday.
Warrants expanded to 131.27 million units worth RM20.54 million from 108.21 million units worth RM16.44 million previously.
Consumer products accounted for 145.78 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (251.22 million), construction (61.46 million), trade and services (511.98 million), technology (41.44 million), infrastructure (11.37 million), SPAC (20.47 million), finance (51.07 million), hotels (1.09 million), properties (78.05 million), plantations (16.61 million), mining (134,000), REITs (3.94 million) and closed/fund (12,000). ― Bernama
